Here's an IMDB review of Homo Erectus:

If you are capable of thinking, this film is beneath you, 4 December
2007

Author: (tumak@[EMAIL PROTECTED]
) from Tampa FL

I have not had the dubious pleasure of viewing "Homo Erectus", but
then I have also avoided rabies, lion attacks and drowning. I have,
however, seen roughly twenty minutes of the film, and the trailer, of
course, and this review is based solely on those.

Caveman films are pretty much hit-and-miss; either they're brilliant
or they're garbage. "Quest for Fire", "The Man From Earth" and
"Iceman" come to mind as about as good a caveman movie can get. "Home
Erectus", on the other hand, excavates the sub-sub basement for those
that should never have come to pass.

"Homo Erectus" is mindless garbage; the lowest excuse for comedy aimed
at the most forgiving and infantile of minds; mentally-challenged
adolescents. One scene pretty much sums up director Adam Rifkin's
approach to comedy. In the trailer when the caveman throws the animal
bone into the air 2001-style and it falls a moment later, hitting him
on the head. Predictable, and utterly unfunny. A five-year-old
wouldn't laugh.

It's clear Rifkin wants to be the next Woody Allen or Mel Brooks. Note
to Rifkin; simply wearing glasses and spouting conventional banter in
along-ago setting is not, in itself, "funny." Allen pulled it off in
films such as "Love and Death," Brooks in "Blazing Saddles," but they
had the benefit of good scripts, and true comic talent.

Rifkin is also responsible for one of the truly worst films in recent
history, "The Dark Backward" which Rolling Stone Magazine called "a
new low in cinematic ineptitude." I doubt "Homo Erectus" is anywhere
near as dreadful, but rather a harmless and pointless meandering mess;
a ninety minute ego-trip for a director who thinks he can act, or
perhaps a director who thinks he can write, or perhaps a guy who
should at least TRY to evolve as a real filmmaker.

"Homo Erectus" will most likely end up on video shelves before going
quietly extinct, so theater audiences will hopefully be spared. It's
sad and rather pathetic that there is a market for films of such low
measure; "Freedy Got Fingered" comes to mind, a few others. Alas,
Darwin had it backwards. We're turning INTO apes, as the recent
decline of American cinema would suggest.

For anyone looking for truly FUNNY cavemen, go watch Geiko
commercials. Even "Caveman" with Ringo Starr had a few moments. "Quest
for Fire", a dramatic masterpiece about stone-age man, had numerous
moments of true comic genius. But avoid "Homo Erectus"... unless you
consider yourself a moron.
