OT - UK government negligent to consider this?

The Government has backed 24-hour drinking - despite acknowledging
there has been a rise in alcohol-fuelled violence.

This is madness. They want more people to get drunk when they know it
leads to more anti-social behaviour and drink-related crime? It's
shocking. Maybe we need a new system of governance - where we, the
people, actually decide on the laws - not these spineless politicians.
It wouldn't surprise me if the breweries have given backhanders to the
government to 'persuade' them to change the laws. 24 hour opening
means 24 hour profits for the breweries. The same is true of the
forthcoming super-casinos or whatever they're going to be called.

Such a cynical world, isn't it. :(
