"Gordon Rennie is both sad and happy that his droid status is on
official hiatus. End of an era, 15 years of service to thrill
power....man and boy..."
According to Wikipedia he's concentrating on writing for games.
Does this mean he's not writing for 2000AD? As he's the second main
Dredd writer, hmm... who will replace him? I guess Alan Grant could
return as a regular Dredd writer. Robbie Morrison and John Smith do
the occasional Dredds but they're not regular Dredd writers. If Rennie
has quit 2000AD he's left a few of his Dredd storylines unresolved -
in particular, the one involving the crime boss replacing the manta
wagons with his own vehicles. Perhaps Rennie's got a few Dredd stories
left to publish. Cabs Inc seems a little unresolved too.
Rennie's take on Dredd was okay, although he never captured the true
lunacy of MC-1. Wagner and Grant are the only writers to truly exploit
Dredd's dark comic world. Other writers seem less comfortable writing
in a more comedic style and tend to overcook Dredd's "stop or you die,
drokkers!" attitude. It's interesting to note Wagner never has Dredd
refer to perps as "drokkers" whereas writers like Robbie Morrison
believe Dredd talks like that.
