RE: worse than that... it cannot easily be fired round the left hand
side
of cover....
That's why the Good Lord invented the Gimpy!! (or lean over more to your
left)
But hold on....... OH. MY. GOD. I just got a reply from John Smith!! Here
goes:
Right handers use the SA80, it ejects spent cartridges in such a way that
a
leftie will get a face-full of hot brass if he is trying to shoot
naturally,
and the safety and cocking are set for right handers. Right handers aren't
safe from the ****ing thing either, another mate of mine is deaf in his
right ear and has damaged sight in his right eye thanks to a breach
explosion that happened him in a firefight in Bosnia. I was speaking to
the
bloke who was one of the sergeants, (Royal RSM), tasked with evaluating
the
SA80 before it's introduction, they trialled it in Norway, and their
re****t
said that the only good things about it were the ammunition, and the
optics.
Which are both external to the weapon. Incidentally, the SA80 round was
classified inhumane by the UN, as during it's trajectory when fired, the
round tumbles, and is designed to injure internally. The new revision of
the
weapon is vastly improved, but still requires ****loads of oil to maintain
in a desert theatre. The M-16 and Colt carbines are designed ambidextrous,
and just have a nicer feel to them, or so I have been told. I am looking
forward to the ****ton Down part of the story being as sinister and bleak
as
I may or may not have been led to believe. John, did you read, "Sniper
One"
by Sgt Dan Mills as part of your research? That's a sma****ng read and I
reckon it would make a belting film. Even if it wasn't part of your
research, it is a good representation of the modern army in battle today.
Anyway, Dead Eyes has piqued my interest recently and grabbed my attention
even more raptly than a Matthew Reilly or Conn Iggulden novel ever could,
so
congratulations from this reader.
