But all the points I make are valid, WR Logan. Even if you accept the
occasional continuity inconsistency - which is inevitable in a 30 year
old comic strip - I think Wagner is ruining Dredd by introducing
A) Mutants being given equal rights,
B) Justice Dept giving a few mutants their own lawgivers.
It's just too dumb. It's beyond the bounds of credibility. If any
writer writes something that is so ridiculous, so out of character, so
out of established context, you have to expect some criticism. It's
not a question of "this story sucks because I don't like it" - people
over on the 2K forum and 2K Review forum tend to critique stories in
the most superficial way without giving coherent reasons for their
dislike - I'm giving valid reasons.
John Wagner cannot expect to introduce ideas like the Chief Judge
giving lawgivers to mutants and expect some Dredd fans to think it's a
good idea. It's not, it's truly crap and it's proof Wagner has lost
his touch. Yes, Wagner can still write good/great Dredd - I would
never say he can't - but some of his ideas don't make any sense. You
can't remove 'mutants given lawgivers' from this current story. It's
happened, Wagner's established it in Dredd's world so he's open to
criticism. I think John should step back from his work, look back on
his old stories and think, "is it really credible to believe a Chief
Judge would give loaded weapons to a bunch of mutants she's never
met?" And if he's honest, he should say, "no, it's not credible, it's
silly."
No writer should be immune from criticism. Criticism is valid when the
material in question (current Dredd) doesn't make sense.
Don't you think it's a bit sad Wagner has changed Dredd's personality?
In Total War and the recent mutant storyline he's had a hissy fit and
said "I quit" or "I will quit if...." Don't you think it's out of
character and making Dredd seem petulant? I do. It's rather lame to
think the council of five would alter the mutant laws because Dredd
threatened to quit. The fact is Dredd's guilty of emotional blackmail
- "if I don't get my way I quit and you don't want that." C'mon, this
isn't the REAL Dredd - it's some lame reinvention. It's the same as
Hershey giving mutants their own lawgivers. No other CJ would do that.
Can you imagine McGruder doing that? LOL It's just silly. That's what
upsets me the most. It's silly. You read it and think, "why is John
doing this?"
Oh well, only a story!
Phantom scojocupcake
You just don't like change, do you? Isn't there a word for that?
