Kelt, I stand by all by comments about current Dredd - I think the
character and his world are being ruined by Wagner's social conscience
approach. I've just read this over on the 2K forum:
"and the Fargos come to visit. "
Can't wait. :P
The whole mutant/Fargo/lawgiver/Dredd petulant 'thing' is awful.
Wagner's still great when he writes pure Dredd (Wagner is Dredd!) -
but the mutant storyline is the biggest mistake in the character's
history. It's undermining Dredd's world and Dredd's character. And the
lawgiver bit was the lowest point - the moment Dredd reached an all-
time low, when Dredd fans the world over put their heads in their
hands, gave out a big sigh and said "why, John?". I don't know what
Wagner was thinking when he thought that idea up, but boy, what a
stinker!"
Hand on heart, I haven't read the fifth and sixth pages of last week's
Dredd because I'm so upset with Wagner sticking in the crass idea of
mutants getting lawgivers. I don't think I can read further Dredd. I
don't identify with it. It's not the Dredd I want to read. If someone
had said, "hey, scojo, in a few years time a Chief Judge will give
mutants their own private lawgivers" I would have never believed it. I
would have said, "that's too ridiculous" - but it's happened.
Daniel Craig as James Bond and Wagner reinventing Dredd - two of my
favourite childhood characters now ruined! :(
