I think the mutant storyline is ruining Dredd and his world. It's
ruining the dark world of Dredd, the autocratic world Wagner spent
three decades building. I think it's lame for people to say "things
have got to change." Things should change if they're beneficial.
Pleaset tell me what benefit the reader gets when reading a Dredd
story about his mutant family coming to MC-1 to sniff out a missing
child? This isn't what Dredd's world is about. It's just silly and
wrong. There should be no mutants in Dredd's world because that's what
helps to define Dredd - he represents a fascist system. Having mutants
in Dredd's city is like saying mutants in Strontium Dog's world can
take any job, have legal norm status It wouldn't work in Alpha's
world so why should it work in Dredd's?
John Wagner has done a terrible thing changing Dredd's world - certain
things should never be changed and key amongst them is keeping Dredd's
world autocratic - it's the lifeblood that keeps the strip unique,
keeps Dredd unique. Strip away the fascist heart of Dredd and you get
what we're reading in 'Regrets' - a lame, watered down, hemophilic
Dredd that has to rely on his cheesy mutant family to solve crimes.
Dredd is not Dredd - he's some bizarre reinvention to suit Wagner's
misguided belief Dredd's world needs changing. It doesn't need
changing, John, your approach to Dredd's world needs changing. I urge
him to scrap all mutant-related storylines and return Dredd's world to
its original conception.
