There's plenty of that in Sandman.  Here's some fun things I picked up 
on, just because of other stuff I like: one of the Sandman books has a 
brief reference to a song by They Might Be Giants.  Terry Pratchett also 
references TMBG a few times in the Discworld books.  Pratchett and 
Gaiman are collaborators.  Gaiman and Tori Amos also reference each 
other, and they're friends IRL.  Which is fun for me, because I like 
Pratchett, Gaiman, Tori, and TMBG.
