Craig Thompson's book-length picture novella "Good-bye, Chunky Rice"
(now reissued in a handsome new edition), is the story of a turtle
named Chunky Rice who leaves his home and mouse best friend to begin a
new life. There are few graphic novels - or works of textual fiction -
that so perfectly capture an emotion as Thompson's deeply affecting
debut.
"Good-bye, Chunky Rice" won the 1999 Harvey Award for Best New Talent,
along with nominations for Eisner, Ignatz, Firecracker and Eagle
Awards. Thompson is also the author of the award winning "Blankets" and
"Carnet de Voyage," and has written, drawn, and designed comics and
illustrations for Nickelodeon, DC, Dark Horse, Marvel and National
Geographic Kids.
