Toward the end of the summer, David Michaelis spent several hours, over
the course of several phone calls, discussing his thoughts on his
biography of Charles Schulz: how he (David) came to the project, his
ideas and intention going in, his never-flagging appreciation for
Schulz's genius, and opinions on the nature of biographies in general.
Given the somewhat ... ah ... sensationalistic tone of some recent
newspaper articles and TV news stories, this interview provides a
thoughtful, calm and (I think) well-balanced counterpoint: a discussion
of a biography's role as an historical document, and a biographer's role
in producing such a work.
