Recurring failure was always a theme in Peanuts, and it was not limited to
Charlie Brown. Here is a list I've constructed of all the recurring
failures of
the Peanuts characters.
Charlie Brown never succeeded at:
kicking the football
flying a kite
writing with a pen
receiving valentines
receiving Christmas cards
talking to the red-haired girl
(On just ONE occasion, in the mid-1990's, Charlie Brown actually won a
baseball
game. On another occasion, I think sometime in the 1970's, his team won 3
or 4
games in his absence. The team's losing streak resumed when Charlie Brown
returned.)
Snoopy never succeeded at:
selling a novel
Woodstock never succeeded at:
finding his mother
Linus never succeeded at:
meeting the Great Pumpkin
giving up his security blanket (Of course, he rarely tried.)
Lucy never succeeded at:
winning Schroeder's love
Peppermint Patty never succeeded at:
getting a grade above a D minus
staying awake in class
Frieda never succeeded at:
getting Snoopy to chase rabbits
