It's all part of a nine part arc going across three Spider-Man titles.
First we find that Peter is dying from what is apparently the source
of his powers. It's finally caught up with him and he's having to
deal with it along with Mary Jane and Aunt May. Even the greatest
minds of the Marvel Universe are unable to find a cure.
Weakened by his condition he falls prey to Morlun who d*mn near kills
Peter. Peter is so beaten up that his face is unrecognizable when the
mask is removed and he's had one eye torn out. Peter is taken to the
hospital where the Avengers try to get custody of him. But they're
told that Spider-Man can't be moved without killing him. MJ manages
to sneak into his hospital room where she interrupts Morlun who is
just starting to feed on whatever it is of Peter's that he feeds on.
When Morlun strikes Mary Jane, Peter, who has been inwardly saving his
strength despite being otherwise dead to the world, attacks Morlun.
But Peter is now transformed. He's got sharp teeth and a bone-like
lance that apparently grows out of his fore-arm. He defeats Morlun
and feeds, of screen, on his head. He then reverts back to a more
human form where he dies in MJ's arms.
The Avengers grab Peter's body before hie can be identified by DNA or
fingerprints so MJ and Aunt May are safe from Pete's enemies. The
last we see is Iron Man flying off with the body of Spider-Man.
Two more issues to see what happens.
