Spider-Man joined the Avengers with the relaunch of the book The New
Avengers nearly two years ago. He subsequently moved his family into
the Avengers' HQ because a supervillain who knew who he was blew up his
apartment and his aunt's house.
And I'm in the same boat as you. I stopped following comics around
'98; and the last thing I remember in the spidey books was "The Final
Chapter" where they brought back Aunty May in what seemed to me was a
cheap ploy.
And I have to say that I hate what Straczynski has done to the
character. This would include changing his powers by mimicking the
movie with the natural web-shooters, having stingers extending from his
forearms, retconning his origin with the Ezekiel/Morlun storyline and
worst of all, the retcon with Gwen Stacy and Norman Osborne.
I don't mind them trying to evolve the character by having him work for
Stark or even his identity becoming public, but the retcons are awful,
and the stories fail. Say what you will about the infamous Clone
storyline a decade ago, but it was never this bad.
It's ironic that I finally get back into
