Actually, anger is a deep part of the grieving process: angry at the
world, angry at God, et cetera.
And I think Peter's status as a friendless "nerd" makes him angry at
those who pick on him and shun him, as it does for many a friendless
nerd.

Actually, I think the change was fairly gradual-- I think the real
dynamic tension of the series is between Peter's first response-- to
anger, to violence, to push people away-- to what he sees as the more
responsible tact: to be a hero. It's about someone aspiring to be a
better person-- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and I think
that's what makes the Lee-Ditko Spider-Man particularly interesting.
