I thought that the whole point of Superman was that he was sent here as a 
baby--as a refugee from a dying race and world.  He then found himself 
growing up with unusual powers that no other human had. Then he was
informed 
of his unique past when he was a teenager.  This does not indicate that he

was somehow ordained by God to be the saviour of the human race.  Rather
it 
is a side effect of Jor-els wish to save his son.   Why Jor-el didn't
build 
a bigger ****p for his wife and himself too is a question left unanswered. 
If the human race "needs" a superman to save them from themselves then
they 
probably don't deserve him.

How could a real superman save the people from  theTsunami?  He would have

only minutes to an hour to move millions of people or stop a wave hundreds

of miles across.  It looks like he would be incapable of stopping natural 
disasters--hurricanes, floods, volcanoes.  He may be able to prevent wars 
but more people have been killed by peanuts in this country than by 
terrorists I've read (don't know if it's true or not). So envision a 
Superman swooping around scooping up bags of peanuts from street vendors
and 
at ballgames--grabbing nut covered icecream cones from the hands of 
children--all for their own good.
