There was a set of novels written in the late 70s/early 80s that I read, 
can't remember the names at all. They were Flash Gordon, but 
chronologically after the defeat of Ming and restoration of Mongo. There 
was another alien threat, and they had to travel back in time to murder 
themselves and others on board a 747 (the same group travelled back with 
them) to create a paradox in order to stop the threat. In the second
novel, 
they had to find a sophisticated ship to help them in the fight with the 
aliens.
